Bengaluru, 28th December 2021: JBM ECO-LIFE 100% electric buses were flagged off today by Shri Basavaraj Bommai, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka today from Vidhana Soudha. Hon’ble Transport Minister of Karnataka Shri B. Sriramulu, Chairman of BMTC Shri. N.S. Nandeesha Reddy and Principal Secretary of Transport Shri. Rajendra Kataria were also present at the e-buses launch ceremony amongst other senior officials from JBM Auto Ltd.

 

The JBM ECO-LIFE electric buses will be running under the metro feeder services in the Smart City initiative. Earlier this year, JBM Auto had received an order of 90 non-AC electric buses for the city of Bengaluru. 25 buses have been flagged off today out of the first batch of 40 electric buses already delivered by the company to BMTC. The remaining 50 e-buses will be delivered in the coming months. This e-bus service marks the first ever rollout of electric bus in the state of Karnataka. These buses shall be operated from the Kengeri, Yeshwantpur and KR Puram bus depots.

The 9 mt non-AC buses have a seating capacity of 33 passengers and a driver. These buses have a floor height of 900mm making it very convenient for the public to board and deboard the bus. They are equipped with 6 Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC) battery packs that make the buses compatible to cover a distance of 120 kms in a single charge with a maximum speed of 70 kmph. The e-buses have air suspensions in front and rear to provide a smooth riding experience to the passengers. These buses incorporate all modern features like Real Time Passenger Information System (PIS), Panic Buttons for emergency, Automatic Bus Vehicle Location System, CCTV cameras, Public address system, Stop request buttons to name a few.

Spinny raises USD 283 Mn in Series E round of funding by ADQ, Tiger Global, Avenir Growth and Arena Holdings

Spinny, a used car retailing platform in India, announces the closure of a USD 283 Mn Series E funding round from new and existing investors. The round was led by Abu Dhabi based - ADQ, Tiger Global and Avenir Growth. In addition to these, the round saw participation from existing investors Feroz Dewan’s, Arena Holdings and Think Investments. The latest round includes a primary capital infusion of USD 250 Mn and a secondary sale of ~USD 33 Mn by select angels and a few seed stage investors. The additional funding takes the overall funds raised by Spinny till date to more than USD 530 Mn and with this round Spinny’s valuation stands at  USD 1.8 Bn.

Tummoc partners with Rapido to provide first and last mile connectivity

Motorsport Came Alive with High Octane Launch of Formula Regional Indian Championship in Hyderabad

 The racing season commences in February 2022 across 4 cities in India

'Formula Regional Indian Championship and Formula 4 Indian Championship' Launched at Madhapur in Hyderabad. The world-class FIA Grade Street circuit which is to be held in Hyderabad, New Delhi, Chennai, Coimbatore in February 2022 across four cities. As part of the curtain-raiser, the F3 street circuit race was started from the city's iconic cable bridge and concluded at the venue. Sudarshan Venu Led TVS Motor Company to Invest INR 1,000 Crore in Electric Vehicles, to Launch Over Half a Dozen EV Vehicles Across Segments by Mid-2023

India's third-largest two-wheeler maker, TVS Motor Company, has plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore to manufacture electric vehicles. Sudarshan Venu, the company’s joint Managing Director, said that the proposed EVs will fall under an independent vertical.

MrVenu, a TVS Group prodigy, paves the way for the next generation of leaders. As the company’s New Strategy leader, this new line of Electric Vehicles is his vision. Ralf Speth—recently appointed as chairman of TVS Motor and former CEO of Jaguar Land Rover—and Kuok Meng Xiong—a leading global eCommerce investor for ByteDance, Palantir and Airbnb—are mentors to the young scion.

It is no secret that an increasing number of startups are focusing on the EV segment, but this does not worry Sudarshan Venu. In his interview with Economic Times, he says, “We’ve quietly worked on EVs for the last one decade. It is a huge focus area for us as we advance. We are embracing this future; we are investing in it and are excited.” “We want to scale up the TVS electric experience pan India, and it is a space where we would like to play a leading role,” he continues.

Despite new-age EV entrants, mainstream two-wheeler makers are also being measured with them. Chetak from Bajaj Auto seems to be on its reincarnation journey, while TVS Motor seems to be as aggressive as ever. Additionally, Hero MotoCorp is steadily investing in Ather Energy and its in-house EV projects.

TVS Motor is working diligently on its 5-25kW two- and three-wheelers portfolio, launching all of them within 24 months. It aims to have electric vehicles across segments like delivery, commuter premium, high-performance sports, and electric three-wheelers.

The company’s new EV vertical has 500-600 engineers are already working on multiple concepts for the new market needs. Designed and developed in India with global R&D, this range of EVs aims to launch in foreign markets.

With a dedicated, scalable facility for electric vehicles, TVS Motor is also developing integrated vehicle architecture with battery and other critical parts manufactured in-house. MrVenu predicts that with falling battery cost, sustained policy support and product launch investments, customer acceptance will accelerate by 2025. “The bull case of the industry is what we will plan for, and we will invest behind it, and be ready for it,” he beamed during his interview with ET.

The infrastructure for charging is critical for faster EV adoption and TVS Motor is planning strategic partnerships to create an ecosystem of fast-charging vehicles.

TVS Motor’s first EV, the iQube, will go from Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi and Pune to over 1,000 dealerships in major Indian towns and cities by FY22 end. Around then, it will also launch its Creon-concept end, foreseen to be the most advanced electric two-wheeler in India.

The company joint MD claims that TVS Motor has a “clear path” for iQube’s positive gross margin. It is all set to transform into a digital-age company with a connected, cool and electric brand, and his commitment of INR 1,000 crore is an investment in that direction.

"We are improving the profitability of our core business and cutting any Capex on non-core areas to keep the focus on electrification and digital future," Sudarshan Venu said to ET. When asked about sales and finance numbers, he said, “We should see very rapid growth from here on. While the total cost of ownership parity is still some time away, in the three to five years, you will see significant growth in the industry; that is why we are investing.”

Believing that EV development has to be "ground-up", he acknowledged that India can play a huge role in the sector, much like conventional two-wheelers. Applauding both states and the central government for the SoPs extended, he said any future policy support should drive “development of technology”, especially through battery technology, cell chemistry, etc.

Sonalika Records Highest Domestic Growth in Industry at 41.6%; Surpasses Industry Growth (est. 26.7%) in FY'21

Sonalika has recorded its highest ever annual sales of 1,39,526 tractors in FY’21 and among the leading market share gainers in the industry. The company has registered a phenomenal domestic growth rate of 41.6% over FY’20 volumes, which is highest in industry and beaten industry growth (est.26.7%) by a significant margin. Alongside, Sonalika has recorded its highest ever annual rotavator sales of 50,000 units in FY’21, recording double the volumes registered in FY’20. Overall, Sonalika Tractors has sold 13,093 tractors in March’21, registering a whopping 135% growth over March’20.

TVS Motor Company Launches the 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V – The 'Most Powerful' Motorcycle in its Class

The motorcycle continues to stay true to its racing pedigree by offering increased power and torque in line with its customers' evolving needs, thereby ensuring the best performance and power of 17.63 PS – making it the ‘Most Powerful’ motorcycle in its class.

TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycle gets an advanced engine 159.7 cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, oil-cooled engine, that now churns out 17.63 PS at 9250 RPM and 14.73 Nm torque at 7250 RPM. The engine is mated to a 5-speed super-slick gearbox that offers a precise and powerful riding experience. The motorcycle comes with an all-new dual tone seat with carbon fibre pattern and LED headlamp with claw-styled position lamps adding to its overall premium appeal. Additionally, the motorcycle has become lighter with a two kg weight reduction, with the disc variant weighing 147 kg and the drum variant weighing 145 kg.

The new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycle will be available in three colors: Racing Red, Knight Black, and Metallic Blue. It will be available in two variants at the current price; Disc priced at Rs. 110,320 (ex-showroom Delhi) and the Drum priced at Rs. 107,270 (ex-showroom Delhi).
